Fred Meyer has been a band director throughout the state of Texas for the last
17 years. He is returning to West Columbia as the assistant director of bands at West Brazos Junior High School and
Columbia High School, a AAA size school about 45 miles southwest of Houston, Texas. He has taught at all levels,
sizes of schools, and in virtually every type of situation. He is very understanding of what a band needs in order to
be successful. Fred's bands have consistantly received 1st division ratings both on the football field and the concert
stage. He is currently a member of the Texas Music Educator's Association, the Association of Texas Small School Bands,
the Texas Bandmaster's Association, and the Texas Music Adjudicator's Association.
Fred is a proud graduate of Plano East Senior High School in Plano, Texas in 1989 and the University of
North Texas in Denton, Texas, in 1993. Throughout those years, he was a member of the Plano East "Marching Panthers"
and the UNT "Green Brigade". He has taken drill writing coursework from UNT and from Dan Ryder and his excellent drill
writing seminar. As well, Fred has adapted drill for Marching Show Concepts since 2006 and continues to do so today.
Fred wrote his first concept drill for Marching Show Concepts in 2011.
Fred currently resides in Rosharon, Texas, which is about 20 miles south of Houston. When he has
free time, he enjoys relaxing, playing his trumpet, watching football on TV, playing around on the computer, cooking,
going out to eat, and spending time with his wife Anne, who he married in 1996, and his daughter, Emily, who was born in 2006.
Gulf Coast Drill Design
Gulf Coast Drill Design came about after many years of enjoyment writing drill.
It came about slowly when I wrote drills for my own bands and branched out to several schools around the area that I work
and live. It has become a passion for me, similar to how some people enjoy doing crossword puzzles or other hobbies.
This is what you can expect from Gulf Coast Drill Design
- A well written show tailored to your needs and desires.
- Support in the hows and whys of what your show does.
- Constant contact before and during the design process to see if I am on the right page with you including
showing you the progress of the show while it is being drawn.
- Contact after the show is written to see how it works for you.
- My philosophy: To treat you the
way I would want to be treated and to write a marching show in a way so that it can be taught easily while still looking good.
I look forward to the opportunity to working with you and I look forward for
the chance to help my fellow music educators with something I truly love to do.
